Flame Arrester Applications

Flame arresters are used to protect people, plant and equipment by suppressing in-pipe detonations or deflagrations, preventing a flame from entering or leaving a pipe or vessel, or from travelling further down a pipe.

Flame arresters may be fitted 'in-line' or 'end-of-line' as either deflagration or detonation arresters, and have elements commonly made using crimped metal ribbon, woven wire mesh, or wire gauze. flame arresters are often fitted on or near a tank or vessel where flammable gases or vapours are present.

Flame arresters are used across a wide spectrum of industries: anywhere that (in)flammable liquids or gases are stored or transported. Explosion prevention technology is also used in waste and wastewater treatment facilities where explosive vapours are a by-product of the processing and breakdown of materials.
