Flame Arresters: Waste Treatment
Elmac Technologies flame arresters are used in numerous wastewater treatment plants to protect people and processes against explosion caused by accidental ignition. Toxic gas flame arresters must be part of a larger monitoring and safety system that can detect air quality levels.
Decomposing organic carbons can quickly cause methane gas build-up.
In the confined spaces of wastewater treatment facilities, methane gas build-up can cause oxygen deficiency asphyxiation, ignition, and/or explosion. Other volatile gases, including hydrogen, ethane and related VOCs are also a deflagration risk, which Elmac Technologies flame arresters, inlets, waste flare burners, vents and breaks can help diffuse. It is important to remember that with toxic gas, a flame arrester is part of an explosion prevention system not an air safety system.
Applications include:
- Sewage towers, digester and storage tanks
- Pressure relief vents
- Flare gas inlet and waste flare burners
