Elmac Technologies release free guidance booklet: Why use a flame arrester? A concise guide.
10th July 2009
In order to help engineers understand the need for, and operation of flame arresters, Elmac Technologies has released a new 24 page booklet entitled: 'Why use a flame arrester? A concise guide'.
Flame arresters are an essential safety component in systems designed for the bulk storage of flammable liquids, and for many other applications involving the storage or transport of flammable gases and vapours.
"There is a widespread lack of understanding in the process industries regarding what flame arresters are, how they work, and why they are needed." comments Elmac Technologies’ Managing Director, Dr. Martyn Cooling, "We hope that this new booklet will help engineers better understand what, where, why and when flame arresters should be used."
The full colour booklet, which is free to download from the Elmac Technologies Data Centre at www.elmactechnologies.com, includes a general introduction to flame arresters, explains the differences in flame type between deflagrations and detonations, outlines the types of arresters commonly used, and gives an overview of the legal framework surrounding flame arresters.
"Despite an increase in safety awareness over the past few years, there are still a large number of industrial sites that are required by the ATEX directive to fit flame arresters in their processes but which have not yet carried out their site surveys to establish the need for them." adds Dr. Cooling.
By making this booklet freely available, Elmac Technologies has given engineers easy access to a simple introduction to an important component in industrial safety equipment. Printed copies of the booklet are also freely available from the Elmac customer services team at sales@elmactechnologies.com.
