Arrester Elements
Arrester Element Spares, Installation & Maintenance
Spare Elements
Spare arrester elements are available for many of the Elmac Technologies® end-of-line and in-line deflagration and detonation arresters (as shown in Tables 1 and 2 below). Although it is hoped that an element never need be replaced due to a deflagration or detonation event, it is often useful to have a spare element for times such as routine maintenance, when elements can be easily swapped out to minimise plant down-time.
Always use Elmac replacement parts and quote the flame arrester serial number when ordering spare elements or other parts.

Element Installation
It is essential that Elmac flame arresters (and their elements) are only used in the application and with the gas group for which they were supplied.
For in-line deflagration flame arresters correct positioning of the flame arrester is vital. It is determined not only by the configuration of the associated pipework, but also by the volatility of the gas mix passing through.
As a basic principle an in-line flame arrester should be located as close to the potential source of ignition as possible.

Element Maintenance
The following maintenance considerations are important, but this list is not exhaustive:
- Maintenance and inspection is the responsibility of the customer and not of Elmac Technologies Limited.
- Arresters should be inspected on a regular basis, especially if a flashback is known or suspected to have occurred.
- Elements may be cleaned with a suitable solvent, followed by a blow through with compressed air.
- Steam cleaning may also be effective.
- Elmac elements can withstand numerous flashbacks without damage but if any distortion is observed, then the element should be replaced.

Documentation
All Elmac Technologies' deflagration and detonation arresters (and spare elements) are supplied with comprehensive installation and maintenance instructions. It is important for the safe operation of the arresters that they are carefully followed, that installations are carried out by suitably trained personnel, and that maintenance programs are in place and adhered to.
